Reagan Movie Screening and Red-Carpet Event with Dennis Quaid

August 22 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Dixon, IL – August 1, 2024 – Young America’s Foundation (YAF) is excited to announce a red-carpet event featuring the new movie Reagan and a special guest appearance by film star Dennis Quaid at the Dixon Historic Theater (114 S Galena Ave, Dixon) on August 22. Quaid stars as Dixon’s favorite son, Ronald Reagan, in the film based on the extraordinary life of our nation’s 40th President.

YAF—which preserves and protects the Reagan Boyhood Home in Dixon, Illinois, as well as the Ronald Reagan Birthplace in Tampico, Illinois, and the Reagan Ranch in Santa Barbara, California—is working with members of the Dixon community, including the Chamber of Commerce, Mainstreet, and city leadership, to use the day to promote Dixon pride for its role in shaping one of the nation’s most beloved Presidents.

YAF is working with community organizations to organize a procession featuring many of the institutions that played a critical role in shaping the foundation of President Ronald Reagan, including the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home and Birthplace, the Northwest Territory Historic Center (his former school), the Dixon YMCA (where he learned to swim), and Dixon High School (where he attended, played football, and learned to act), the Dixon Municipal Band and the Dixon High School Band (Reagan was the drum major for the historic YMCA band), the First Christian Church of Dixon, and his alma mater, Eureka College.

The procession will begin at 6:00 p.m. in front of the Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home (810 S Hennepin Ave, Dixon) and proceed north down Hennepin Avenue—along what is known as Reagan Way, the path that “played a vital role in the development of [Reagan’s] character,” according to the Dixon Historical Preservation Commission.

Community members and visitors are invited to gather on the sidewalks as participants march towards the west corner of Galena Avenue and 2nd Street around 6:30 p.m.

Beginning at 6:00 PM, ticketed guests will enter the Dixon Historic Theater, where Quaid will take the stage at 7:00 p.m. for an interview with YAF leadership, followed by the film screening at 7:30 p.m.

In addition to leaders and members of the greater Dixon community, the event will include Governor Scott Walker, YAF’s president; Governor George Allen, chairman of the Reagan Ranch Board of Governors; former Reagan-detail United States Secret Service Agents; and other leaders, supporters, and students connected to Young America’s Foundation from across the country.

“Young America’s Foundation is proud to highlight President Ronald Reagan’s roots by organizing the red-carpet screening of Reagan in his boyhood town. Dixon played a foundational role in shaping him into one of the most transformative Presidents of the 20th century. Renowned as the leader who ended the Cold War and ushered in an era of economic liberty and widespread prosperity, his impact on history and our lives is undeniable. Yet, to truly appreciate the man behind these monumental achievements, you have to understand his roots – and those begin in Dixon, IL,” said Governor Scott Walker, president of Young America’s Foundation.

Tickets can be reserved at www.yaf.org/DixonRedCarpet, with a special rate for students. All proceeds will go to preserving the Dixon Historic Theater and Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home.
